When you produce a version of Pebble Beach that is so good it makes people forget your well done version of Firestone, there comes to be certain expectations of excellence when you take on a course like Sawgrass. With that in mind, I am going to be tough on Brandon and start with a few negatives.

The course is too easy, as evidenced by my casual -10 in my first go-round (that didn't even win my foursome). Even with the green speeds maxed out, I think they may be a bit undersloped and overforgiving. This should be fixable, and may have already been fixed in subsequent releases. The second negative is the abundance of shadows on the greens. I'm not even someone who minds the shadows, but even I noticed it. This should be an easy fix. Lastly, I'm not sure that I found the Tropical theme to completely capture Sawgrass. Maybe there was more foliage than I would expect at Sawgrass, I don't know what it was exactly. I don't think this one is fixable, but maybe with a few more plays I will change my mind.

What I do know is that by about the 11th hole, I had completely forgotten about any complaints, and was fully immersed. The mounding around the greens really caught my eye, and the retaining wall work looked good, which is an accomplishment given the current tools. My favorite holes, 13, 16, 17 and 18, all played as expected and delivered the experience I always remember.

I'm excited to finally have this video game golf staple now available in TGC. I'm not sure which was harder to execute, but I still give Pebble Beach the nod over this one, as it remains an incredibly impressive accomplishment. Still, having both courses on your resume is a fantastic achievement.
